My Favourite Childhood Books

I loved books when I was younger and I have been reminiscing recently about all the amazing stories I read at this time. I thought I’d share some of the books I read when I was a child which sparked my obsession with turning pages now.

197256971.) The Warrior Cats series by Erin Hunter. These books focused on four clans of cats living in the wild and fighting for survival. I was actually obsessed with this series. I made my mum buy me all the books as they were released and I read them very quickly. This series was the first fandom I joined, at an age when I didn’t know what a fandom was, and I enjoyed it so much. I joined forums and I made Warrior Cat YouTube videos and I wrote Fanfiction. I was in love with this series and it still holds a place in my heart. If you have younger siblings or a young child, I recommend you encourage them to read these books aswell.

281872.) Percy Jackson & the Olympians by Rick Riordan. I’m sure many of you have heard of this series which focuses on Percy Jackson who discovers he is the son of a Greek god. These books are funny, action packed and exciting. I enjoyed reading them immensely. Plus this series introduced me to Greek gods which I am still fascinated by today. I love reading up about ancient Greek myths and stories, as well as reading about lesser known gods and mythical figures. No other books featuring Greek gods will ever live up to this series for me.

188180963.) The Buttefly Lion by Michael Morpurgo. I don’t remember much about this book. I just remember it being sad and liking it because it involved lions. I read many Micheal Morpurgo books when I was younger and enjoyed all of them, even though they weren’t always the happiest books and often dealt with difficult topics. But his stories are always handled in a way that’s suitable for children with extra aspects that you’ll only notice when looking back as an adult.

9780064471046_r1_slideshow4.) The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis. This series is a classic and it’s full of magic, focusing on the adventures of children in the fantasy world of Narnia. I enjoyed these books a lot when I was a child (who didn’t?), even though I found it confusing how each one focused on different characters. Plus, I recently discovered that there are debates as to what order the books should be read in so I might have read them in the wrong order when I first picked them up which probably didn’t help my understanding of the world. However, I am still fond of this series.

709475.) His Dark Materials series by Philip Pullman. This is another series I was captivated by. I absolutely loved the world in this series and I adored Lyra as a main character, she was really fun to read about. After reading these novels, I wanted a daemon of my own so much and I would daydream about what form it would take. I recall not being completely happy with how this trilogy progressed, certain events happened which were strange and made me unhappy. But I was all for souls represented in the forms of animals which was the primary reason I was a fan of these books.

What books did you enjoy reading when you were younger?

  1. I loved His Dark Materials series so much when I was growing up, it was one of the first series that I finished. The other books that I absolutely adored were Chronicles of Ancient Darkness by Michelle Paver.
