Top 5 Wednesday: Books You Want to Finally Read in 2017

Top 5 Wednesday is a Goodreads group created by gingerreadslainey. This week’s topic is Books We Want to Finally Read in 2017. Now, I’m terrible at sticking to TBRs so I can only hope and pray that I will somehow get to the books on this list. Of course, there are many other books I want to read as well as the ones on this list. However, these are the books I want to prioritise.

1.) Everything Everything by Nicola Yoon

My disease is as rare as it is famous. Basically, I’m allergic to the world. I don’t leave my house, have not left my house in seventeen years. The only people I ever see are my mom and my nurse. But then a moving truck arrives next door. I look out my window, and I see him. He’s tall, lean and wearing all black. He catches me looking and stares at me. I stare right back. Maybe we can’t predict the future, but we can predict some things. For example, I am certainly going to fall in love with him. It’s almost certainly going to be a disaster.

I’ve been wanting to read this book for a while. And after reading and loving The Sun is Also a Star, Nicola Yoon’s newest novel, I decided I needed to read this book as soon as I can. I’m not sure if I’m going to love it as much as her other book but I definitely think I’ll enjoy it.

2.) Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo

This is the second book in the well-known Six of Crows duology. I’m sure a lot of people have already this book but, unfortunately, I am not one of those people. I loved the characters and the plot of the first story and I’m super excited to know how this series is going to wrap-up. I’ve managed to avoid spoilers so far and I’m hoping no one will accidently ruin it for me before I finally read it.

3.) This Song Will Save Your Life by Leila Sales

Making friends has never been Elise Dembowski’s strong suit. All throughout her life, she’s been the butt of every joke and the outsider in every conversation. When a final attempt at popularity fails, Elise nearly gives up. Then she stumbles upon a warehouse party where she meets Vicky, a girl in a band who accepts her; Char, a cute, yet mysterious disc jockey; Pippa, a carefree spirit from England; and most importantly, a love for DJing.

I’ve mentioned this book on my blog a couple of times before because it’s been on my radar for a while. Plotwise it sounds like something I’ll really enjoy and I have really high expectations for it. Therefore, it’s at the top of my book-ish wishlist and maybe I’ll finally buy it as a present for myself this Christmas.

4.) Illuminae by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff

The year is 2575, and two rival megacorporations are at war over a planet at the edge of the universe. Too bad nobody thought to warn the people living on it. With enemy fire raining down on them, Kady and Ezra are forced to fight their way onto an evacuating fleet. But their problems are just getting started. A deadly plague has broken out, the fleet’s AI may actually be their enemy; and nobody will reveal what’s really going on. As Kady hacks into the web to find the truth, it’s clear only one person can help her bring it all to light: the ex-boyfriend she swore she’d never speak to again.

I’m pretty sure everyone’s heard of this series, I know I’ve seen it everywhere. It’s told in a mixed-media format which looks really interesting and the plot sounds amazing. Yet, I still haven’t read it. I really want to get around to it and hopefully I will next year.

5.) The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. The black sign, painted in white letters that hangs upon the gates, reads: Opens at Nightfalll Closes at Dawn As the sun disappears beyond the horizon, all over the tents small lights begin to flicker, as though the entirety of the circus is covered in particularly bright fireflies. When the tents are all aglow, sparkling against the night sky, the sign appears. Le Cirque des Reves The Circus of Dreams. Now the circus is open. Now you may enter.

I think I’m the only one who hasn’t read this book. And I know this a well-loved story with lots of great reviews so I have no decent reason for not having read this yet. The plot sounds like something I’ll love – it’s dark and mysterious. And I think when I do finally read this book it will become one of my favourites.
